The Long Weekend Was Nice

I hate to see my hubby go back to work tomorrow morning! I've just enjoyed him being around ... and for FIVE days! Friday was his alternate Friday off, so turned the 3-day weekend, into a 4, but then he took a vacation day for today, and made it 5! We've made good use of the time, he took it easy but got some things done.

Sleeping in has been an awesome luxury. Just letting our bodies wake up when they feel like it, instead of the piercing buzzing of the alarm at 5.30am signalling my grabbing my walker and making it to the kitchen to let the dogs out, feed the cats, then sit to make hubby's morning coffee and pack up his lunch box for the day. He, poor thing, fumbles to get dressed and out the door, to go work out in the heat on his beloved C-130s all day.

I may be disabled but I try to be a good wife.

This morning my darlin' friend, Dimple, came over to clean for me, so my house is all fresh and nice. Then hubby and I took a drive down to Waterloo, to go onto the property we have been eyeing these past few weeks. Sadly, it is not to be. The track into the property was extremely rough and rutted, and I almost got stuck, plus the slope is more severe than the photos implied. Worse (for us, with 4 dogs) there were NEIGHBOURS less than 20 feet away ... we had thought there was more space on that side, and a thick wedge of forest, to separate us from the closest people.

It's not that I'm anti-social, I LOVE people, just not close to home. My dogs are indoor outdoor and stay in my fenced yard, but sometimes something may spook them and they'll bark or maybe they'll be playing together and bark, I don't want them disturbing somebody else's peace and quiet, but equally, I don't want someone complaining about them for doing something dogs do.

It's like being around people, I'm miss chatty cathy when I'm out and about, but I prefer to keep my home just for family. I don't invite people to my home because usually now, I am in bed most of the day, plus - again - my dogs. They are getting older, and although I am 99.9% sure they won't bite anybody, you really never know what can set any animal off. I have no intentions of putting my animals in danger of getting in trouble, nor myself for a lawsuit!

So, sadly, this cute little retreat in Waterloo is not going to be our dream place. We will just continue to look. Having made the decision to look for a lakeside home, we'll just continue the journey for now.
